AM Feeding

As a groomer for 20 plus years I have been pampering peoples pets but sadly through no fault of their own 4 million dogs end up in shelters every year-yet the word shelter is not quite an accurate description.  The word shelter implies safety but most municipal animal controls have euthanasia rates well over 50%. The clock starts ticking the second a dog arrives, in fact if a dog is “owner surrendered” there is no hold time required before euthanasia can be administered. If the shelter is full they are usually the first to go.

The facts are sad but that’s where rescue groups come in. Groups like ours have a mission of finding as many of these deserving dogs loving, forever homes. We here at Animal Attraction do our best to evaluate, socialize and provide a stable loving environment until we can find our dogs adoptive families. We also work with other local area rescue groups to house any dogs that they do not have space for.

Shelters are always very busy and unfarstefded. The best thing you can do is go talk to the shelter manager. Explain that you have a project and you’d like to use some of the dogs as models but give it a twist use the pictures you take for you, but find a way to help the shelter as well. Use dogs that have been there for a long time as models and donate the pictures to the shelter for publicity free of charge.

Well one thing most rescues check is your vet and the hiotsry you have with them, do you have a primary vet that has seen both pets at least once a year since you got them/moved to the area? Have you been giving heartworm/flea prevention on schedule and have you gotten all the needed vaccines? If the answers are yes then I think you have a great chance, though you should make sure to ask the shelter staff if they cat test the dogs and if they do then ask them to show you only the cat friendly dogs, then once you have narrowed it down to a short list make sure your dog has a chance to meet and give his opinion of his new friend Was this answer helpful?

What did you train them to do? Price would depend on what your nehbgiors were willing to pay and on your skill level. If you are looking for training experience, volunteer at your local shelter. sure they won’t pay you but you’ll get lots of experience training many different dogs with different issues. Plus training helps the dogs get homes. If you are out to make some money, offering pet sitting or dog walking might be more up your alley.References : old balanced trainer

Most people are gone arunod 8 or so hours a day for work or school, I think dogs are fine as long as they have water and if they can’t hold it some newspaper or something. Your dog will probably be happier with a friend while he is at home. I think the shelter will understand and expect people to be gone for work. I think your chances are very good, they will probably want the new animal to meet your current pets, to make sure they get along. But shelters are looking for any loving home they can find, I’ve found shelters to be a lot less picky about owners then specific breed rescues, I think some rescues get a little too picky imo. Good luck getting a new dog! Was this answer helpful?

Simply tell them you are a passionate phorpgtaoher that also feels a strong desire to broaden the awareness of the community on caring for our animals and adopting pets through your final project in photography at your school. Tell them you would like to photograph dogs in the kennels and can give them a letter from your instructor if they wish. Make sure you explain you are not taking the dogs out of the kennels or handling the dogs just photographing them from the outside of the kennel looking in. If you plan on trying to take other types of phorpgtaohers make certain to ask permission first.Go to the kennel and ask them who you need to talk to regarding taking photos for a class project. Good luck
